Art with a Higher Power

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be
brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

As an artist, I seek to celebrate what is beautiful and striking in the world. My passion is painting the face…not traditional, staged portraiture, but the portrait of a face "caught in the moment of revealing an emotion." The expressive face and eyes, and the intriguing colors revealed within them, are exciting to me. I enjoy creating interpretive paintings of natural scenes and flowers as well. My work, while realistic, it is impressionistic in the search and use of color. My approach is simple; I draw and paint with my brush to release the paintings in my head.

My ventures into graphic design and table décor have been serendipitous! After many years of creating graphic designs and event décor on a volunteer basis for non-profits, charitable organizations, friends and colleagues, I realized, this too can be part of my art offerings. In 2010, I have made this a formal part of my business.

I am an independent and primarily self-taught artist, and have been painting for over 18 years.
Until recently, my art was secondary to my work as a Human Resources consultant; in November, 2009, I resigned my position to pursue art full-time. I have exhibited locally at my neighborhood library and have taken adult education painting classes at the LaGrange and Oak Park Art Leagues.

I reside just outside of Chicago, Illinois and am a member of the Old Town Triangle Association.

About My Art...

Why "Art with a Higher Power?"

I love to give credit where credit is due. My excursion into painting began later in life than most. It was truly a deliberate synchronicity that sent my life into a new direction in one small, momentary encounter with another kindred spirit.

My God of small moments, my Higher Power, has been orchestrating things since. He has patiently waited while I grudgingly denied my purpose over the years and lived my life half empty. Through times of joy, or periods of trauma, failure, and abject fear, He has sent me guardian angels, Cassandra's, whispers, shouts, and love to bring me right where I am supposed to be…living a full full life! So now I listen as someone in whom He finds great pleasure.

Belovedness. Risky…undeniable…scary…irrestistable…true.
